Creation of the first teaching chair in rural law of Macfarlanes LLP within IHEDREA, the school of agriculture and agri-management
Macfarlanes LLP, a firm whose roots lie notably in the land and agricultural and estate issues, partners with IHEDREA to create a Chair in Rural Law Education.
The creation of a chair in rural law
Unique of its kind, this chair is based on the Paris campus of IHEDREA. Its purpose is to share knowledge between the firm's lawyers and the school's students, whether they are in initial training, apprenticeships, continuing education, VAE (Validation of Acquired Experience), or career changes. Thus, IHEDREA students will benefit from the expertise of Macfarlanes LLP's specialists to acquire the best skills in the field of rural law.
The two partners have agreed to implement joint actions within the framework of the school's educational offering and the transmission of knowledge in the field of rural law.
The objectives of this Chair
Concluded for a period of three years, renewable, this partnership aims to:
- Strengthen rural law teaching at IHEDREA and position IHEDREA as the leading private higher education school in the field;
- Promote the development of expertise and talents, as well as the professional integration of the school's students;
- Contribute to the transfer of knowledge between the chair, the school and partner organisations: private companies, public and semi-public bodies.
Rural law, this important subject rarely taught
It should be noted that rural law is a subject rarely taught in higher education institutions in France, yet it is of considerable importance as it concerns both farmers and relations between the rural world and users.
Rural law, at the crossroads of private law and public law, is a living and evolving body of law. Its legal sources, European, national and local, legislative and regulatory, are multiple, which reinforces the importance for IHEDREA students to have professors who come from the professional world and who are perfectly familiar with the latest developments in rural law.
The chair operates within a framework of independence of thought, a guarantee of pedagogical quality. It contributes to the synthesis of existing law and to reflection on the rural law of tomorrow.
The actions of the chair are varied. For example, in addition to teaching, it will allow the carrying out of work, research projects, or even publications and the dissemination of knowledge to the widest possible audience.
“I am very happy with the creation of our chair with Macfarlanes LLP, which has been teaching courses at IHEDREA for about ten years. Thus, through the chair, our ties will be formalized and strengthened. Our students are particularly satisfied with Macfarlanes LLP's courses; they even tell us they want more! Beyond lectures, we plan to develop training, particularly in e-learning, to meet current legal knowledge challenges. With one-third of farm operators retiring in the coming years, there will be a strong need for legal support for the sale and transfer of agricultural businesses, for example”, says Albena Gadjanova, director of IHEDREA.
"IHEDREA is a unique school in the French academic landscape, and we are delighted to contribute to the training of young people with generalist profiles who are capable of intervening in the management of agricultural and agri-food sectors at all levels: legal, accounting, financial, tax, commercial, and marketing. The creation of the chair confirms our commitment alongside IHEDREA to train the skills that France, Europe's leading agricultural power, so desperately needs. Thus, in 2024, we are launching the 'Prix Drouot' which will reward the most significant legal work carried out in pairs between one of our lawyers and a student from IHEDREA", confirms Ahmed Ali Rashid Mandeville, founder of Drout Avocats.
A great initiative that brings education and the professional world closer together to better meet the major challenges of tomorrow!
